Biography

Sam Winnig has been an Assistant District Attorney since 2010. He obtained his Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2005. He obtained his law degree from the University of Mississippi in 2010, where he graduated cum laude with a concentration in criminal law. As an assistant district attorney, he has tried close to 50 jury trials. He has previously been assigned to the office’s domestic violence unit and DUI unit. He served for several years as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the office’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program, handling cases involving gun crimes, including carjackings, business robberies, and bank robberies. Currently, he is assigned to the Special Prosecution Unit, handling the most serious crimes committed by repeat offenders. Sam has taught at the academies for the Memphis Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, participated in the Youth Court program at Juvenile Court, and spoken at Juvenile Cease Fire classes.
