Description:

This session will provide an overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, including a review of basic concepts under the HIPAA Privacy, Security, Breach Notification, and Enforcement Rules, as amended by the HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule published on January 25, 2013. This session will also cover patients’ rights under HIPAA, and provide a brief discussion of recent OCR investigations and HIPAA-HITECH audit efforts.
