David Smith leads Thomas & Betts Corporation’s compliance and corporate governance functions as well as provides legal counsel for the company’s international operations, finance, treasury, and securities teams. In his role as chief compliance officer, Mr. Smith is responsible for ensuring that Thomas & Betts Corporation’s global activities comply with international, federal, state and local government regulations. As assistant secretary, he oversees the corporate governance activities for the company and its subsidiaries.
Mr. Smith joined Thomas & Betts in 1998 as chief transactions counsel for the company. Prior to joining Thomas & Betts, he served as regional counsel for Healthsource, Inc, a division of CIGNA. He began his career at the law firm of Speed & Taintor in Chattanooga, TN.
Mr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration with honors, a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate degree the University of Tennessee. He also served as executive research editor for the Tennessee Law Review.
